My girlfriend recently took a visit home to China. She asked if she could use my camera, a sigma DP1. I had recently used it to take some photos of her graduation and she loved the results. I was hesitant since my girlfriend knows next to nothing about using this camera. As it turns out, she didn't take many photos but I was impressed by the ones she did. Here are a few below:

Handheld with the mirror-up mode. A bit over-exposed as well. Used the beautiful and classic Super-Takumar 50mm f/1.4 lens.
The SD14 is not particularly known for it's ISO 1600 performance, but I like a challenge

Recently visited Wellington. It was a nice reset but I can't but help feeling I'd like a more extended holiday. Coming this December hopefully ![]()
we see what we see

The SD14 is performing beautifully, though I haven't had nearly as much chance to use it yet as I would like. I feel limited without a car. The city is diverse but there are a lot of people who frown at a big DSLR being pointed at them so for now I'm sticking mainly to still life.
an open window..
I had just gotten a package with my 24mm f/1.8 lens and though I was already running late for work, I took the time to fire off a daylight test shot looking out from my window.
I've tried to keep the colors faithful here from the original, just added a bit of contrast and a tiny bit of saturations. They say the Sigma SD14 doesn't have reliable AWB but I'm finding that kind of fun and really liked the color tones here.
satellite skies
This is where I work. DP1 shot. Inspired from the last post, I'm still playing with green/blue tones.

I was giving the DP1 workflow an alternative try-out with Adobe Lightroom. The colors seems to be a little more flat and generally I find most of the presets available for Lightroom to be too severe.
This one worked out a bit more nice though. It was originally underexposed and a polaroid-type preset brought up the exposure and added a nice contrast, not to mention some interesting cyan/green tones.

Just recently I've been using a Sigma DP1. It's an impressive compact with an APS-sized sensor(previously only found in DSLR's). I was in a bit of conflict over the DP1 vs. DP2 and which I should get. After looking at a few hundred samples on Flickr, I decided I was more drawn to the wide-angle perspective and colors(or rather, the difference in how the older processing engine handles them, both cameras having the same Foveon Sensor) of the DP1.
In any case I think I'm sort of becoming obessed with it. I find myself contemplating all the potential accesories and customizations that I can't afford. A quick search on flickr shows I'm not the only one becoming fanatical about this line of cameras. I've even read about more than one individual selling off their Leica M8 after having discovered the DP2.

That's pretty extreme but Sigma should take note. With the release of cameras like the Olympus E-P1, the market awakened with a serious craving for smaller, rangefinder-like digitals that don't cost as much as an M8 or RD-1 (if you can find one). How about a DP with interchangeable lenses? Being their primary business, Sigma is even set up to manufacture a line of smaller, compact lenses to accompany it.
In the mean time the route for interchangeable lenses in a Foveon sensor is the Sigma SD14 DSLR.
